Hello and welcome to my blog. I designed this page to tell you a bit about me and why I decided to start blogging.

In the Beginning

I always start my life story by saying, “I grew up in Oklahoma”. Here I am at 43 years old (and have not lived there for 20 years) and that is still the first way I identify myself. Oklahoma is in my blood, it is in my accent, and I am proud of my native heritage.

At 25 years of age, I decided to join the United States Army. I stayed with the military for 13 years before moving on to a different phase in life. I loved all the people I met, all the places I visited/lived, and all the great experiences that being part of the Army provided.

During my time in the Army, I obtained a B.A. in History. I then received my teaching license in Secondary Education Social Studies. I adore history and cannot wait to teach it! (More on that later.)

Life Changes

At the age of 35, I met my husband. Marrying him required that I move (yet again) and I had the pleasure of acquiring an insta-family. My husband had two daughters who were in their twenties. At that time, the oldest had one child and one on the way.

At 39, I found out that I was pregnant. A son was added to our unique family dynamic. Inquisitive strangers give me “the look” when I explain that the four-year-old is my granddaughter and the two-year-old is my son. My granddaughter finally said, “Let’s just nod and smile, Mema” which is our new mantra. 🙂

Because my granddaughter and son both needed a caregiver, it made the most sense for me to become a stay-at-home mom. Hence, immediately after obtaining my license to teach, I chose to put that career on hold.

Why I Blog

I love to write! I also love to research, read, and teach others about what I have learned.
